theory.”

Open Yoga Meditation ~ Asana ~ Pranayama ~ Savasana
Open level classes are appropriate for all levels, including Beginners.
The students' 'goal' in an open class is to take their practice level
from where it is; into the beyond, by using physical modifications
given by the instructor. This class is informed by several types of
yoga and does not follow any specific style. It is an exploration of
the body using breathwork and heightened awareness that supports
balance in the body. It encompasses the stength building and alignment
of an Iyengar type approach (long deep holds) balanced with a Yin
approach. Yin yoga asana is a releasing into the bodys individual
structure and is less focused on classical alignment. Our philosophy is
that yoga is not a competition with either ourselves or others. |
What is a Vinyasa Class?
Kim teaches a strongly compassionate yoga that is challenging for
advanced students and supportive for beginners. She is strongly
influenced by Vinyasa, or a fluid asana practice that purifies,
empowers and revitalizes through a creative blend that emphasizes the
detail and therapeutic approach brought to us by Iynengar, the
energizing merge of breath and challenging asana, influenced by the
Ashtanga method and the inherent heart opening and compassion that is
the result of any authentic yoga practice.
Vinyasa or "flow" yoga is
one of the emerging forms of yoga in the West arising from
Krishnamacharya's lineage of Ashtanga, Iyengar and Viniyoga. Vinyasa
yoga is sequenced to bring balance between ease (sukha) and effort
(sthira) while synchronizing the movement with the breath. The
sequences of the yoga postures are both physically challenging and
spiritually rejuvenating. Each posture is designed to prepare the body
for the one that follows. Yoga opens both the chakras and the
muscular/skeletal system, stimulates the glandular system, and helps
eliminate toxins to rebuild the body from old injuries.
With continued
yoga practice, what once seemed purely physical slowly transforms the
practitioner towards a metaphysical state of being. Kim's intention is
to empower each student to discover the teacher within and that these
classes transform your thoughts, actions and body from the inside out. |
Private Yoga Instruction
Private Yoga Instruction is perfect for those new to yoga. Several yoga
sessions can give you a basic foundation in alignment and breathe to
enable you to safely participate in most beginner or intermediate yoga
classes. Private yoga is also beneficial for those who want to deepen
their practice or work toward rehabilitating old or new* injuries.
Please contact Kim to discuss your unique situation and needs. |

Kim
is the daughter of a Hindu father and Christian Mother, and a long time
student of diverse spiritual teachings and indigenous wisdom. She began
practicing yoga shortly after an injury to her knee in 1988 left her
unable to walk without a limp.
Years later, while working in Washington, DC, she
saw how effective it was for people to reclaim balance thru the simple
practice of yoga. Kim now lives in Brewster and is also a massage
therapist with interests in herbalism, and simple natural living.

| Yoga facilitates our inner
teacher to wake up and 'help us out of our own way'. Of course, a
strong and supple body are nice side effects, but what really happens
is an unfolding of the spirit by learning to simply ‘Be in the moment’.
Join Kim as her intuitive, compassionate, yet challenging approach
helps you to relax, replenish and rebuild. Come feel wonderful and let
the sacred happen. |
“True
understanding is found through Compassion"
Yoga practice brings balance and
restores all bodily systems by creating physical, mental and spiritual
harmony. Through regular practice, the asanas (postures) improves the
heart, spleen, kidneys, liver, and intestines and strenghtens the
ligaments, tendons, joints, and muscles.
The mind is also strengthened and regular practice helps to eliminate
stress, depression, anxiety, and other mental afflictions. Yoga helps
to calm the mind, quiet the brain's chatter, and deepens the relaxation
response.
As we progress in our practice, we open ourselves up for a
transformational experience. This is our intention at Brewster Yoga and
Massage. |
